Killing the Commute – ways to save valuable time

With so much time spent travelling (an average of 16% of the working day, usually much more) it’s little wonder that it feels like ‘there aren’t enough hours in the day’. US car support notes that there are a number of ways to cut down your commute, especially if you’re all too reliant on your car.
Although public transport is not as convenient, sometimes more expensive and takes longer on average than a commute in the car, it does give you the opportunity to get some work done. It’s not advisable to work on a laptop while driving, but is a valid option while on public transport and affords time to get some extra work done on the way.
Carpooling is another option we’d heartily recommend in the field of US car support. Not only is it a cheaper way to get backwards and forwards to work, it also (like public transport) offers you the chance to work on days you aren’t driving without having to put up with busy trains and late buses. The downside however is that it means spending an extra hour or two a day with your co-workers, which can be a bit of a chore given that you already spend more time with them than your family and friends.
Another possibility would be to arrange working a longer day in exchange for an extra day off, thus cutting your time commuting each week by around three hours. It may seem like a slog pulling 8-6 shifts every day, but by the time your three day weekend rolls round it will feel more than worth it. You will probably notice the extra money saved by cutting down the extra travel day in your monthly pay packet, too. Similarly, have a chat with your superiors and see if you can do any of your current workload from home.
