Shoaib Akhtar
The once mighty cricket team of Pakistan is no longer as effective on the field as it used to be. More so, it has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons like match fixing, corruption, internal politics and even visiting cricketers being attacked by terrorists. There is no doubt that Pakistan is a country that is full of talent, especially when it comes to cricket. Some of the greatest batsman like Seed Anwar, Ijaz Ahmed and bowlers like Wasim Akram and all rounder’s like Imran Khan are the big names that have played for Pakistan’s cricket team.

However, the biggest enemy of Pakistan in recent times has been inconsistency and corruption within the team. There is no point in having great talent if you are going to use it only once in a while. Also a talented but unfit player is a waste. Shoaib Akhtar is one of the best examples of this. He was surely the fastest bowler in the world, but was probably the most unfit cricketer in the world. I am sure it is true that when you bowl with such intensity, you are probably stretching your body too much. But how does it benefit anyone if you are going to show up in the field once in a while and then even when you do show up, you are not able to finish the game.

Honestly I am a bit sad that I could not see the full extend of damage this fast bowler could do to any batting line. He did have his moments but I think there was still more in him and all of it was wasted due to bad attitude and lack of hard work. There are many Pakistanis who live in London and quite a few of them work for cab companies who provide Heathrow transfers services. If you talk to them you will rarely find anyone who does not know Shoaib Akhtar and almost everybody will tell you that Shoaib could have contributed more than he did to the world of cricket.
